David Strauzz (b.1976) is a mixed media urban contemporary / street artist who currently resides in Prague, Czech Republic. Born to Czech immigrant parents in London, Ontario, Canada, Strauzz studied at OCAD University in Toronto before relocating to Boston, Massachusetts becoming a resident artist at Braintree Street Studios in Allston. Following several solo and group exhibitions in Massachusetts and New York City, David was inspired to migrate back to the Czech Republic in 2015, coming full circle seeking to reconnect with his cultural heritage providing clues to his own self identity. He has started to exhibit throughout Europe including Berlin while developing his oevre focusing on persona and the impact of technology on human interaction.
Documenting the human experience through portraiture and figurative art inspires my development as a urban contemporary street artist. While I was a student at Beal Art School in London, Ontario, I experimented with a hard geometric, deconstructive aesthetic trying to find a visual voice that reflected my observations while traveling throughout North America and Europe. While living in Boston, USA around 2013 my artistic practice shifted as a result of several tragic personal experiences and seeing a large scale painting by Chuck Close at the MFA. I began to exclusively focus on semi abstract, optical and/or kinetic, mixed media and experimental portraiture. Moving forward, I found solace exploring existence via my public street art projects, connecting with people, sharing stories and researching the impact of technology on human interactions in a time of uncertainty and absurdity.
